The first testimonies concerning Follonica are known in a document dated 1038, which speaks of a donation of land to the Abbey Sestinga, owner of a large part of the Maremma. Mainly its history is linked to Castle Valleys, which will remain only its ruins in the northern city on a hill overlooking the Gulf.
